Life
It took me too long to remember what happened at the beginning of this month. Apparently my mind is already hard at work blocking it out. The short version is that over Easter weekend, when I should have been eating brisket and watching my kids play with their cousins, I was instead taking my 3-year-old to the ER with respiratory distress. We were ultimately life-flighted to a bigger hospital where he was admitted to the Pediatric ICU for a couple of days because of his pneumonia.
He’s fine now.
While we were there, he was officially diagnosed as asthmatic, but that means we have him on a daily control medication to help manage his symptoms. Hopefully that means the next time he gets a respiratory illness, it won’t automatically send us to the hospital like it has three different times now. I’m trying to focus on this silver lining, but the truth is that I should probably be finding a therapist to work through what happened.
And I should probably write about it.
Moving on… The new organization system I put in place last month has helped tremendously with my school work and keeping track of writing and house projects. I think it will help reduce the mental load of trying to keep on top of deadlines for so many different things.
On another bright side, I can (mostly) think again! Malachi is now 3 months old and I am definitely starting to see the light at the end of that tunnel. Sleep isn’t great, but it’s becoming steadily more consistent. In addition, what was once a daily evening screaming/crying session from him has become a once a week engagement, which means that, on the whole, life has become a bit less stressful.
Maybe this next month will be better. Finals are coming up next week, and the professional program starts at the end of May, so I’ll have a couple weeks to catch up on things in between.
Fingers crossed that it’s enough.
Writing
As I mentioned last month, I’ve got a couple virtual tours set up for Bittersouls this summer. The first one started today and is being run by Bewitching Book Tours. I wrote a few guest blog posts and did a few interviews over the course of this month to prepare, which was a little different than my usual writing. In some ways, it was refreshing to look back on what I accomplished with Bittersouls to remind myself that I can (someday) push forward and release a new book.
Besides that, I’ve been working through reading The Damned Earth in preparation for my next revision pass on it. There’s lots still to do, but progress is progress.
I have to keep telling myself that.
Progress is progress.
*exhale*
Thanks for reading. I’ll see you all next month.
